BACKGROUND

I am a licensed professional counselor and art therapist who received my master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. I hold undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Fine Art from Montana State University, and also have extensive training and experience in Child Development and Grief Counseling. I’ve written and implemented curriculum for public school grief support groups in Boulder and Broomfield Counties, where I also served as a counselor and group facilitator for bereaved adults, teens, and children.

In my private practice, I’ve worked with people who struggle with depression, PTSD, sexual assault, domestic violence, agoraphobia, anxiety, panic attacks, interpersonal relationships, chronic stress, life transitions, spiritual exploration, and developmental and behavioral issues . My involvement with these courageous people has reinforced my faith in the kindness, resilience, and wisdom inherent in mankind.

It has been my privilege to work in professional and non-professional capacities with children and adolescents for over 30 years. In addition to parenting four children of my own, I’ve been a teacher, an art studio mentor, a coach, a theologian, a professional painter, potter, and photographer, a corporate HR director, and a world traveler. I maintain an avid interest in spiritual matters, nature, bicycling, and art-making. My diverse background and rich life experiences allow me to approach my present work with insight, unconditional acceptance, and compassion.

For years I have enjoyed doing research on the human brain. The promise of recent research informs and influences my current work in an exciting and encouraging way. Realizing we can do specific exercises (like repetitive concentrated focus) to change the function and structure of our brain offers solutions to people interested in mending relationships, improving memory, or recovering from trauma; and brings hope to people with disorders once believed to be impossible to remedy.

Please investigate my neuroscience link for more in-depth information about how the workings of the brain can merge with art-making to improve our mental, physical, and emotional health. I currently reside in Telluride, Colorado, where I’m dedicated to helping people uncover their strengths, regain lost hope, and find tools to help them conquer life’s challenges.
